The Louisiana House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice sided with law-abiding gun owners by defeating a bill that would have prohibited firearms on property belonging to the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board.

Attorneys with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence asked a judge Monday to throw out the National Rifle Association’s lawsuit challenging Pittsburgh’s controversial lost or stolen gun ordinance. The ordinance requires gun owners to tell police if their firearms have been lost or stolen within 24 hours of realizing that they are missing.

The sponsor of a bill to allow handguns to be carried in bars and restaurants where alcohol is served is lashing out at Gov. Phil Bredesen for vetoing the measure.
